Colorful Copan…Honduras part 2 of 3

We bid farewell to the Rio Negro mountains and start the two hour trip back to Comayagua. After resting up a night at Hotel Casagrande, we tackle the six hour, winding, bumpy ride from Comayagua to Copan, Honduras. The ride was filled (as were several barf bags) with intense motion sickness. Was it worth it? You bet! (The kids may disagree…)

Photoshop Drone Composite

Oh, wow… Have my eyes been opened to a whole new world of possibilities!

I have to say, I am excited to have discovered the panoramic features of the DJI Mini 2 drone. Manual settings to keep exposure stable, click the shutter and 9 full size images go into a folder. Downloaded the folder|opened Photoshop|File automate|Photomerge-checking all the boxes for fill, etc. and “BOOM!” This is the result after some tweaking in Photoshop along with Topaz edits to finish it off.

There is also an option for a 180 degree panoramic composite that I accidentally clicked on and was pleasantly pleased with the potential of those results. Both features have really possibilities and I will be working with them again.

DJI Mini 2 | Joyce Meyer | Two images merged and edited in Photoshop and Topaz

Drone photography has caught my interest and I’ve debated whether it’s worth getting a Part 107 Drone License. So far, I’ve been shy and stealthy when flying the tiny DJI Mini 2 drone for recreational purposes only. Research tells me that anyone wanting to sell aerial photography, monitor their farming operations with a drone, or do any other business related work with a drone must have a Part 107 license. Hmmm…?

Photomerge…

Can’t back up enough to catch the entire image? Photomerge is your friend.

Line up the left side – click – hold level and move right with at least 25 per cent overlap – click.

In Photoshop CC 2017: file automatephotomerge – browse and select your images – check blend images together – I also checked perspective and content aware fill transparent areas – click O.K.

This gave me the background images. I then used select select and mask to bring in the foreground subject.

Finished it off with Topaz edits and some lightning using Photoshop brushes I found free (Brusheezy!?).

BOOM!! GO LANCERS!

The Flag and Freedom

May we think of freedom, not as the right to do as we please, but as the opportunity to do what is right ~Peter Marshall Gary, South Dakota is the kind of community Norman Rockwell may have used as inspiration for a painting with picturesque surroundings, historic buildings and friendly people. The small town swells with pride and people during its annual flag waving July 3rd and 4th  Celebration.

Our local American Legion and Legion Auxiliary organizations are made up of proud, selfless individuals who support our community, especially the youth, through summer baseball/softball programs as well as a Junior Legion Auxiliary organization. You will find these people volunteering their time at community events, parades, Veteran funerals, playing taps, etc.  Click on the link for a history of the Peden-Cole American Legion web page thanks to the American Legion Centennial Project.

Much controversy has revolved around a professional football player kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality against people of color. This is his right… Maybe it was an efficient way to bring attention to his cause and he’ll go down in history books as some sort of hero. Or, maybe it backfired and came across as being selfish, bringing negative attention to his team.  So much publicity involved not respecting the flag and the United States that it may have taken away from the actual purpose of his protest.  Our country is all about standing up for what you believe in, but needs to be done in a way that conveys the actual point you wish to make.  And above all, be kind.

Sunset on Lake Cochrane

Image and edit by Joyce Meyer

Available light photography is a perfect way to capture many portraits, but sunset is not a time to utilize this option. Without flash you either have a silhouette or muddy skin tones along with a blown out sky. Solution?  Add a flash to bring out the details. On this portrait I used a Canon speed light 580ex2 flash off camera, a cybersyc  flash trigger along with a Canon 580 ex2 with a Gary Fong diffuser on camera for a little fill.

ISO 100/ F8 aperture at 1/250th shutter to maintain detail and color in the sky.
