Sports, lighting and a misfire…

It was getting towards dusk and the plan was to light the subject from both sides, but it was at the end of the session and the batteries were getting tired. Hence, one flash fired and the other didn’t. After looking through the images I decided this one was worth saving after all. I’m a sucker for drama.

Sports portraits and off camera lighting

While available light is easy to use, I don’t like how it blows out the sky when doing backlit portraits. This portrait setup involved strong sunlight as it lowered in the sky, football field light, and two Canon 580 EX II speedlights with Cyber-sync radio triggers. Speedlights were on both sides of the subject to outline and define his strong features at manual 1/4 and about 10 feet away from subject. Camera angle low to give the portrait a feeling of strength and size while keeping the field light in view. Canon 5D Mark 3 settings were ISO100 at 8.0 and 1/125. Post processing involved basic adjustments in Lightroom and HDR in Photoshop with a few other tweaks.

We were so fortunate to have such a beautiful evening with no wind and pleasant temps. Go Bulldogs!! Yeah, life is good…

I don’t want the weekend to end!

I think a lot of us are feeling this way today.Full-0125bgcrweb

Vimeo Versus YouTube

Best wishes to the class of 2016… Slide show and images by Joyce Meyer

Following is the link to the same size YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=C0_Ru2v0Zow

Both Vimeo and YouTube slide shows are the 960 x 540 option.  Both sites utilized the free plan option and were shared from IMovie.

So, what’s the difference between YouTube and Vimeo?

YouTube is owned by Google, and therefore by linking your YouTube content in with your Google My Business account is most likely to gain you some SEO points. YouTube and Google also give you the ability to stream videos live via Google Hangouts. On the other hand, your videos on YouTube will be subject to more ads and a more cluttered interface.

For businesses looking for higher quality video presentation there is Vimeo. Vimeo will allow you to upload your videos at a higher quality, and less distractions.

All things seem possible in May

Winters can be long and brutal in Minnesota, but that just makes spring all the sweeter. Optimism fills the air as the soil receives tender seeds and new life spring forth.  Across the road, newborn baby calves are bouncing under the watchful eye of their mothers munching on fresh spring grass.

…and children play.

You’ve come a LONG way…

Fox_CoverSpecial place in my heart when it comes to this young man and I’m pretty sure I share this sentiment with all of his teachers throughout the years. Seems like just yesterday he was in kindergarten and now he’s ready to take on the world!!

Playing with a little HDR toning in Photoshop CC2015.

Determination

Playing around with an edgy style of editing to give the impression of toughness.

Backlit with Canon 580 EX 2 flash.  Front slightly filled with reflector. Reflection is real and not edited into the image, but I did blend another image with jersey on the subject. Edited with Photoshop CC 2015 HDR and added some texture to the edges.

Strich-1360rhdr2txwebI am thinking the window would be a good spot for an action image blended in. Hmmm…?
